3 John 1:2 'Dear friend, I hope all is well with you and that you are as healthy in body as you are strong in spirit.'
Hey Fam as worship leaders, we pour our hearts and souls into guiding congregations in prayer and praise every week. The spiritual aspect of our role is undoubtedly crucial, but we often neglect an equally significant aspect - our wellness. How can we effectively lead others if we are not taking care of ourselves first? I was reminded of this truth by my spiritual father as I observe him walking this out before my eyes with all he has to carry in ministry, in his personal and family life. It is always encouraging.
Also attending the Northern Caribbean University in Mandeville, Manchester I had first hand experience of health and wellness and that planted a unique seed. At the time, I was very guilty of not taking care of myself and yes it is a journey not a destination. I suffered with depression, shortness of breath, always feeling tired/exhaustion, poor vocal health, joint pains and more. Can you relate?
The definition of wholeness is nothing missing nothing lacking. 2 Peter 2:3 says 'His word declares that his divine power has given us everything we need for life and Godliness...'. We often forget the for life section and I often wonder why. Church congregations are flooded with lifestyle illness and if we do get on a program it's not to the glory of God but for our physical selfishness. Are we truly good stewards of our body I Cor 6:19 says 'Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself' so now as a new creature you cant just do as you desire. There is a prescription for us to operate as maximum capacity with excellence.
In this guide, we will explore the importance of wellness for worship leaders and provide practical tips to help you thrive in body, mind, and spirit. As an example of a believer, know that others are looking on in order to figure out how to walk the salvation road, preserve it and enjoy it in-spite of the challenges.
Understanding the Link Between Wellness and Worship Leading
Wellness is not just about physical health; it encompasses our mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being. As worship leaders, we carry the responsibility of creating a sacred space for others to connect with the The Lord and it can be difficult when we are not attending to all the areas. To do this effectively, we must ensure that we are in a good place ourselves. A healthy worship leader paves the way for a thriving worship team and experience.
